This is the area that runs parallel with the Ashby Road (A512). I lived nearby for many years so I'm very familiar with the area.
Of specific concern is the use of various roads fronting the Ashby Road for university parking. This has really got out of hand now and I am in continuing discussions with the University and Police over options to address this. The students in all Halls built since 2008 2008 will have to sign a legal agreement that they will not bring a car into Loughborough, the most radical option yet. The problem is most severe on Garendon Road and I have now succeeded in getting patrols and enforcement of university rules on this area as well as New Ashby Road.
The estate has an excellent shopping area for an estate of its size, at Sharpley Road, including a Pharmacy, Post Office, General supermarket, a Chinese Take-away and a Fish & Chip shop.
Unfortunately despite my best efforts, the University still refuses to create a gateway out of the University so students can also take advantage of these excellent local shops.
We have a community centre at "the Hut" which is accessed from Hermitage Road or Old Ashby Road. This is supported, quite brilliantly by the ARECA committee and various staff from Charnwood, County, the voluntary sector and the Police. We meet most months and I attend nearly all their meetings.
I am in close touch with other public services connected with health and community safety and attend events with all those agencies on a regular basis.
