Decision details

Selection of preferred bidder for Birkett House, Wigston

Decision Maker: Director of Corporate Resources

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

No use of the asset for the delivery of County Council services has been identified. The building was damaged by fire in April 2023 and much of the property had to be demolished in consequence.
The disposal will bring the site back into beneficial use and ownership and secure a capital receipt, which will support the County Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy.
The bid selected represents best value to the Council compared with the other bids received.

Decision:

To approve the recommendation for the selection of a preferred bidder for Birkett House, Launceston Road, Wigston, following an informal tender process. The decision relates to a site of 1.81 acres.

Alternative options considered:

The Council received a number of bids for the property from which it needed to select a preferred purchaser.
