Purpose:

Following the construction of the A606 North and East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (NEMMDR) and the subsequent declassification of Nottingham Road, Saxby Road, Thorpe End, Sherrard Street, Leicester Street, Burton Street and Burton Road, Melton Mowbray from ‘A’ and ‘B’ Class roads, the existing 7.5 ton Weight Restriction was to be extended to improve road safety and public amenity and to reduce the number of HGV’s travelling through Melton town centre.

Decision:

To extend the existing 7.5 ton Weight Restriction within Melton Mowbray to include:
Saxby Road (in part);
Thorpe End;
Sherrard Street;
Leicester Street;
Burton Street;
Burton Road;
Rutland Street;
Goodriche Street;
Church Street;
Park Lane;
Melton Spinney Road (in part);
All roads within a zone bounded by Saxby Road, Thorpe End, Sherrard Street, Leicester Street, Burton Street, Burton Road and A606 NEMMDR.

Other reasons / organisations consulted

The consultation was carried out for a period of three weeks between 16 October and 6 November 2025. All statutory consultees were contacted. One objection was received and was subsequently withdrawn following further clarifications.
Mr A. Innes CC, Mrs K. Knight CC and Mr B. Lovegrove CC were consulted and had no objections.
