Traffic calming measures in Great Bowden have been identified as a key priority for the allocation of Section 106 (S106) funding.
Phase 1 comprised the implementation of a village-wide, Signed-only 20mph Speed Limit.
Following discussions between Leicestershire County Council and Great Bowden Parish Council, it was agreed to proceed with the assessment of a 20mph Speed Limit within the village.
Traffic speed surveys were commissioned and carried out between 3 November 2025 and 10 November 2025 at several locations.
The speed survey results indicate that mean vehicle speeds at the majority of surveyed locations are at or below the 24mph threshold set out in the Department for Transport's guidance. One location on Leicester Lane recorded a higher mean speed; however, this is not considered representative of the wider village, where speeds generally comply with the guidance
Leicestershire Police have confirmed its full support for the proposed 20mph Speed Limit.
The order is being introduced to improve road safety.

To implement the 20mph Speed Limit in Great Bowden.

The statutory consultation was carried out between Thursday 16 April to Friday 8 May 2026. The consultation period was extended to 22 days to account for a bank holiday.
The proposal was advertised in the local press and published on the County Council’s website. All statutory consultees were contacted as part of the consultation process and site notices placed throughout the village.
A total of 115 responses were received, of which 112 were in support of the scheme. Two objections and one neutral response were also received.
Local Member Dr S. Hill CC was in support of the scheme.
