The minutes of the meeting of the Constitution Committee held on 8 September 2005, were taken as read, confirmed and signed as a correct record.

The Chief Executive reported that no questions had been asked under Standing Order 35.

There were no other items of urgent business.

There were no declarations of interest.

RESOLVED

That the public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following item of business in accordance with the provisions of Section 100(A)(4) of the Local Government Act 1972.

to the Standards Committee

The Committee considered a report of the Chief Executive on the process of appointing independent members to the County Council’s Standards Committee. A copy of the report marked ‘B’ is filed with these minutes. The report was not for publication by virtue of paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12(A) of the Local Government Act 1972.

The 4 shortlisted candidates were then each interviewed in turn.

RESOLVED

That the County Council be recommended to appoint Mr M J Caple and Mr H M Pearson to serve as independent members of the Standards Committee for a term of 4 years ending on 7 December 2009.
