Road Safety Kilby Road into Fleckney

We the undersigned petition the Council to take urgent action to extend the current 30mph speed limit on Kilby Road, beyond its current boundary, to the bend in the road near Lyndon Farms. Since the construction of the Garner Way estate, there has been a significant increase in traffic, with the area outside the current speed limit becoming hazardous for residents, pets, and wildlife.

Our Concerns:
Pet Safety: Since the building of the Garner Way estate, several beloved family pets, including cats, have been killed by speeding vehicles. The lack of speed enforcement and a properly extended speed limit has made the area extremely dangerous for animals and their owners.

Wildlife Hazard: The surrounding area is home to various wildlife, and speeding vehicles pose a serious threat to the local ecosystem.

Pedestrian & Child Safety: The entrance to Garner Way, located just down the road from the bend near Lyndon Farms, is regularly used by pedestrians, including children. With cars speeding into the village from Kilby Road, this area has become increasingly unsafe for those entering and exiting the estate.

Our Requests:
Extend the 30mph Speed Limit: We urge the council to extend the current 30mph speed limit from its present location up to the bend near Lyndon Farms to cover the entrance to Garner Way and ensure traffic slows before reaching residential areas.

Implement Speed-Reducing Measures: We call for the installation of speed enforcement measures, such as speed bumps, rumble strips, or other appropriate traffic-calming solutions, to ensure drivers respect the speed limit and improve safety for pedestrians, pets, and wildlife.

Conclusion:
The current situation is putting the lives of animals and humans alike at risk. By extending the speed limit and installing traffic-calming measures, we can prevent further tragedy and make the road safer for everyone in the Fleckney community, particularly those living in or near the Garner Way estate.

We urge the council to act swiftly before more lives are needlessly lost.
