The traffic calming measures were proposed in order to reduce speed along Main Street, and to increase safety especially in the vicinity of Thornton primary school.
The developer was obliged to deliver traffic calming measures as part of their Section 106 (Town and Country Planning Act 1990) of their planning consent, and the developer had also been working closely with the Local Highway Authority to develop these proposals.

Consultation process
The consultation took place between 19 August 2024 and 9 September 2024 (three weeks). 360 letters were sent providing details of the proposed traffic calming scheme. There were 26 objections and five forms of support. A total of 31 responses were received. The essential consultees were also engaged as part of the process, with the Parish Council responding by raising an objection. All of the feedback was carefully considered, and the developer had been contacted to provide further clarifications where necessary. The Local Member Mr. P. Bedford CC was consulted and raised no objections.
